It was both a surprise and an adventure for me to visit Romblon. We may not be aware, but Romblon is actually an hour away from Caticlan. Believe me, the adventure was more that it was called for.
Located in the MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) region, Romblon is an archipelagic province of the Philippines. It is composed with three main islands which includes Tablas, the largest which covers nine municipalities, Sibuyan and Romblon, the provincial capital of the region. The province lies south of Marinduque and Quezon, east of Oriental Mindoro, north of Aklan and Capiz, and west of Masbate.
Only a few people know that this island exists. Thus, the beauty is preserved. |
How to get there:
1. Since I live in Iloilo, I took a 4hour ride from Tagbak Terminal to Caticlan Aklan.
2. From the jetty port going to Boracay, take the boat going to Carabao Island or locally known as Hanbil.
If you are from Manila, you may take the Manila- Aklan flight which flies daily with Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines.
*you might want to consider the earliest flight because the boat leaving for Carabao leaves once a day every 9AM.
Carabao Island loading dock. Hugot no. 1: "Klaro ng tubig. Di katulad ng feelings nya sayo" |
I cant's help but be awed with its peaceful beauty |
The long beach stretches up to where we stayed |
Where to stay:
l Upon reaching the island, locals would offer you a free ride going to rental places in the area.
l Accommodations would range from fan rooms worth P500 good for two persons. You don’t have to worry because the area is clean and safe.
l We booked at airbnb c/o Michael at P750 good for four people. Check out his account here -> AIRBNB MICHAEL
l Keep in mind that Carabao Island’s electricity would start from 2PM to 6AM.
l There is also a convenience store which offers free use of their cottages when you order food from them. You certainly won’t miss this since the house has a huge cage with 3 eagles in it.
The view will never fail you Hugot no 2: "Hanggang tingin ka na lang ba?" |
Not for the faint heart Hugot no. 3: "Buti pa ang tubig sinalo ako. Nahulog ako sayo pero bubon ang dinatnan ko" |
You can go try this hanging bridge then take a big jump at the edge of the cliff |
What to do there:
1. Visit Koding-koding and do some cliff diving
2. Go up the mountains to see the entire romblom and Boracay
3. Enjoy the crystal clear beach water
4. We rented a habal-habal for P500 to tour you around. You Most habal-habal driver would might want to try this

ReplyDeleteI haven't visited this paradise island of Romblom. Though my best friend lives there, we haven't really tried planning to visit her hometown. Anyways, from Batangas, you can also ride on ships going to Romblon, but nah, that is possible if you have lots of time since it will take a day reaching the island. XD
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, the hugot lines you included on your photos. Just sad that you are thinking not to post your adventure. But I would like to read it! :D
