Road to Discovery: Romblon Philippines

Located in the MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) region, Romblon is an archipelagic province of the Philippines. It is composed with three main islands which includes Tablas, the largest which covers nine municipalities, Sibuyan and Romblon, the provincial capital of the region. The province lies south of Marinduque and Quezon, east of Oriental Mindoro, north of Aklan and Capiz, and west of Masbate

How to get there:

Since I live in Iloilo, I took a 4hour ride from Tagbak Terminal to Caticlan Aklan. From the jetty port going to Boracay, take the boat going to Carabao Island or locally known as Hanbil.

If you are from Manila, you can directly book a flight to Caticlan Aklan since it offers more flight options. Take note that the boat bound for Carabao Island is due once a day. The fare costs P100/ person and departs the port every 8:30AM. You might want to consider this is in your itinerary.

1st Stop: CARABAO ISLAND.

Carabao Island is known as the town of San Jose in the Province of Romblon. Composed of five barangays and home to more than 8,000 people, the island offers serene beauty and enchanting beaches. Most residents rely on livelihood projects offered by Boracay Island with fishing as its primary source of trade.

Where to stay:

Upon reaching the island, locals would offer you a free ride going to rental places in the area. Accommodations would range from fan rooms worth P500 good for two persons. You don’t have to worry because the area is clean and safe. Keep in mind that Carabao Island’s electricity would start from 2PM to 6AM. There is also a convenience store which offers free use of their cottages when you order food from them. You certainly won’t miss this since the house has a huge cage with 3 eagles in it.

What to do there:

Activities in Carabao Island include:
Most habal-habal driver would offer to take you around for P500/head. We took the bargain and to tell you frankly, it was worth it!

Lounge all day at the beach
  • Go scuba diving, or better yet, watch the sunset at the beach
Go cliff diving in koding-koding beach

Take a deep breathe and feel the fresh air at koding-koding beach
Enjoy the surreal underwater cave at koding-koding beach

Visit Ngiriton caves and go bat sighting

The adventure continues on my next blog as we visit Tablas Island.
